Brick has always accompanied the history of man, right from the prehistoric era.
The first traces of buildings in unbaked brick, moulded by hand and dried in the sun, date back to the VIII millennium BC. It was around IV century BC that baked brick then appeared (more durable and resistant).
In Italy, first the Etruscans and then the Romans develop and perfect the art of mixture and baking, both for building and decorative purposes.
The tradition of brick then continues uninterrupted into the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, until the arrival of reinforced concrete in the 1900's, which for the first time challenges its supremacy.
Today brick has been widely reappraised and rediscovered in its traditional form, thanks to its indisputable natural qualities and its beauty and versatility. |
